The outer immediate companion of Andromeda, M110 (or NGC 205). Unlike most dwarf elliptical or spheroidal galaxies, it has recognizable dust clouds (two are visible here at about the 7 o'clock and 11 o'clock positions from the nucleus) and clear signs of recent star formation. This image shows a 9-arcminute section, seen in red light with the Lowell 1.1m telescope, focal reducer, and TI CCD. The nonlinear inensity mapping shows both the outer envelope and innermost bright, sharp nucleus.
