    More Images by David Malin

The following images are results of special photographic techniques developed by David Malin (AAO). These techniques are described online in David Malin's webpages at the AAO Web site, where you can also find images of non-Messier deep sky objects:

  • M84 and M86 with several fainter NGC galaxies in Virgo Cluster: deep b/w negative image; b/w positive.
  • M89: deep image (b/w negative), showing a jetlike structure and a faint ring of matter; b/w positive. Inset shows conventional photo of M89.
  • M100: deep b/w negative with a conventional color image overlaid; b/w positive and color negative.
  • Trapezium Cluster in the heart of the Orion Nebula M42, visible light compared to IR.
  • M42 and M43: deep image, contrast enhanced by David Malin's revolutionary unsharp masking techniques.
  • M8: deep image of the Lagoon Nebula, contrast enhanced by unsharp masking techniques.
